Urban and Rural Survival is pleased to offer group firearm/security training for small groups. Classes can be held at our range or even at your facility if you wish to come up with a security plan. Please note there is a minumum of 3 people required to sign up. Feel free to call 970-765-0398 for scheduling!

Cameron Yarberry

Firearms instructor, CPR/First Aid Instructor

Cameron Yarberry, owner of Urban & Rural Survival, is a Concealed Carry and Home Defense instructor and Range Safety Officer certified through the USCCA, as well as an NRA Pistol Instructor.

Cameron is also a certified BLS Instructor through the American Heart Association.

He was a volunteer fire fighter with Log Hill Fire Department, and currently lives off-grid in the Log Hill area near Montrose, CO.

Ted Valerio

Ted Valerio came to the Western Slope of Colorado in 2001 to serve the community as a law enforcement officer. During his 20 year tenure he has enjoyed a majority of his career as a major crimes criminal investigator and a polygraph examiner. He also has 18 years of SWAT experience, from entry to sniper team leader. Currently he is the Lieutenant of Investigations for the Montrose County Sheriff’s Office.

He is an experienced Certified Law Enforcement Firearms Instructor in Handgun, Carbine (Patrol Rifle), Precision Rifle, and Tactical Rifle. He maintains these skills by acting as the range master for the Montrose County Sheriff’s Office and trains students at a regional Police Academy as a Colorado POST full skills firearms instructor.

As a small business owner (oneasteriskindustries.com), Ted Valerio specializes in 3D design for prototyping and additive manufacturing.

Having a grand ol time. A parameter that I like to see with folks I teach who concealed carry is to be able to draw from concealment and put 3 rounds on an A Zone target in under 3 seconds from approximately 5 yards. This is a good foundational point and proves the shooter has put in consistent time and training in. It generally will take up to a couple thousand rounds and consistent training to be able to do this. The sight-in process doesn't have to be complicated. Especially on a shorter sight in such as the 36 yard zero I experimented with today. First time with an lpvo and I have to admit I'm digging it. 3 groups to sight in, first two shots way low right. Don't be afraid to make large corrections; on these I moved it about 12 clicks in each direction and it is a 1/2 moa adjustment. After this I had one more large correction to make, and I got lucky because I put all three rounds basically touching in the bullseye. It's that time of year again. What I love about elk hunting is the extraordinary amount of effort it takes to pull a legit hunt together. It requires consistent physical training to be able to drag an elk out of rugged mountains on your back. Consistent practice and shooting with a rifle to get everything dialed in, collect DOPE, and feel confident to take that shot. And a hefty amount of gear and knowledge of how to use said gear to be able to handle what 12000ft will throw at you at the end of October in Colorado. Wetterhorn peak summit from west fork Cimarron. This was my first real hike of the summer, been a little lazy 😬 and I paid for it lol. Not going to lie, this one kicked my ass pretty good. Finishing off 2022 in Maui, Hawaii. Not a bad place to be. 2022, and the few years before it, have been challenging to say the least. But without challenge, there is no growth. Had our first trial of our FOTS class last night! Really fun and informative class that I encourage ANYONE to take. Instructor was a flight paramedic for a number of years and really knows his stuff. Gun show went GREAT this weekend! Met tons of awesome folks and had a really nice time interacting with people. I also have to give myself credit for behaving and not buying any new guns.
